♥ hair talk + my hair idea: open braids ♥

Attention: this could be a text heavy post. (;

I'm not satisfied with my hair right now. :< As you may know I'm half African, half German. My hair structure is really, really frizzy. Not curly, frizzy - this is quite common for African people.
For years I straightened my hair with chemical straighteners (almost like a perm but in straight) to maintain my hair. I was just unable to cope with my 'real hair'. Now I want to go 'back to my roots' and grow out the straight hair. So I basically have 2 hair structures right now and this isn't easy. ): I don't want to cut my hair, because the grown out hair is only 4 to 5 cm long at the moment. In this time I have to protect it - with protective hair styles. One of many protective hair styles are open braids.

♥♥♥

Achtung: dies könnte ein text-lastiger Post sein. (;

Jetzt möchte ich 'back to the roots' und das glatte Haar rauswachsen lassen.

This hair style is easy to explain. The first few centimeters of your hair would be braided and the rest would be left open, you could also braid additional hair in it to extend the length. Exactly what I want - longer, curly hair!
The left picture
shows the tiny braids. They took hair and braided it together with her real hair. So her real hair is quite protected at the roots but she still has long hair. Her hair is quite long and dark and has a middle part.

The right example shows what color and length (maybe a few cm longer!) I want to have but this is without the braids. So you have to morph these two looks together to imagine what hair style I want to have: braids with curly hair, but with a side part, layered and a lighter color, not as black as in picture one (because my hair is brown, not black).

My mother is already convinced that this would look really, really good on me ("maybe you would have curls like this if you didn't straight it chemically for years, look at your roots, it is curly!") and also my brother encourages me to do it ("approved!"). The hairstyle could be worn for 3 to 6 months before you have to re-do the braids, because your hair still grows, you know. (;

♥♥♥

Exakt was ich möchte: längeres, lockiges Haar!

Meine Mutter ist schon jetzt überzeugt, dass es sehr, sehr gut an mir aussehen würde ("vielleicht hättest du auch Locken wie diese, wenn du sie nicht jahrelang chemisch geglättet hättest, schau deinen Ansatz an, er ist lockig!") und auch mein Bruder ermutigt mich, es machen zu lassen ("genehmigt!"). Die Frisur kann zwischen 3 und 6 Monate getragen werden, bevor die Zöpfchen neu gemacht werden müssen, weil das eigene Haar ja immer noch wächst, ihr wisst ja. (;

What do you think? Would this suit me?

  1. I love your hair the way it is, but I think it's fun to try out new styles! It would also be a nice break for your hair from being chemically straightened! I would love to see pics if you decide to give it a go. :)

  5. It's nice to hear that you would go back to your hair roots. Any chemical hair process or even perming would probably damaged the hair.

  10. I think the stye pictured looks lovely!! Once I started working with my own naturally curly hair texture it made my life a lot easier - less time dealing with it, less time feeling frustrated, less money spent on products and tools to straighten it :)
